Introduction
Culture and arts of Gwangju, a city of history where the
spirit of Baekje is still alive.
This festival aims to increase pride in the
fact that Gwangju enshrines the memorial tablet of King Onjo, the founder of
Baekje, in Sungyeoljeon (temple) of Namhan Fortress. It is widely acknowledge
that Namhansanseong Fortress is where the spirit of King Onjo is located as the
first capital of Baekje and Gwangju aims to pass down and develop this local
festival.

Namhansanseong Daedonggut (Memorial Service)
Invites and mollifies the souls who died during the
construction of Namhansanseong Fortress and the Japanese invasion in 1636 in
Cheongyangdang (shrine)
Sacrificial Service in Sungyeoljeon (shrine)
This sacrificial service is performed in Sungyeoljeon on Sep.
5 every year (lunar calendar) for King Onjo, the founder of Baekje, and Admiral
Yi Seo, the general manager for the construction of Namhansanseong Fortress.
Traditional Korean Music and Art Contest
A contest for traditional Korean music and art passed down in
each village such as the four peasants' percussion instruments performance and
folk music performances.
Folk Games
Five traditional folk games (Arrow throw, seesaw jump, stone
hitting, ring toss). All visitors can participate in the games.
